WHAT DO I GET WHEN I JOIN THE SOCIETY?
On becoming a member you will be sent a digital Welcome pack which includes:

• Welcome letters from the Chair of the Society, Membership Officer, and relevant Branch or Group if you live within their catchment area.

• A short introduction to research.

• A guide to signing into the Members’ Area of the Society website and access to back copies of The Ricardian and The Ricardian Bulletin.
   

WHEN DO I GET MY INFORMATION PACK?
You will receive your information pack shortly after receipt of your completed membership form and payment.
 

DO I HAVE A MEMBERSHIP NUMBER?

Yes, and this will be shown in your welcome pack and on the address sheet that accompanies your mailings of the Society’s publications.

Your membership number should be quoted on all correspondence with the Society.

CAN I BUY GIFT MEMBERSHIP FOR A FRIEND?

Of course!  Simply complete the Gift Membership form with as much detail as possible and send it to the RIII Membership Department with the appropriate subscription payment. We offer a special gift membership presentation pack for an additional, one-off payment of £5.

Please allow 21 days for processing gift membership requests.
 

WHERE IS THE ANNUAL AGM HELD?

The location for the AGM is on a four-year rolling programme. Meetings are held in London, the following year in York, the third year in Leicester, and the fourth year at a venue determined by the Board of the Society.

WHAT IF I DONT RECEIVE MY REGULAR BULLETIN OR RICARDIAN?

The Ricardian Bulletin is published every March, June, September and December. The Ricardian is published online annually.

If you have not received either publication, please contact our Business and Distribution Manager Gabriella Williams (distribution@richardiii.net) quoting your membership number.

HOW DO I RENEW MY MEMBERSHIP?

Memberships should be renewed on 2nd October each year.

You can pay by Direct Debit – which can be set up via the Society website, you can download a Direct Debit form from the Join the Society page of the website.

You can pay by PayPal or by credit/debit card via PayPal – you do not need to have a PayPal account in order to pay this way. The Society’s PayPal account is richard3society@yahoo.com Please complete the ‘Message to Recipient’ box by entering ‘Subscription Payment’ and your membership number, name and postcode/zip code.

Alternatively you can pay by Direct Bank Transfer, cheque, or Standing Order, by filling in the form (available on the ‘Join the Society’ page) and returning it to us via email to our Membership Officer Julia Langham at msl@richardiii.net or by post to:

Cheques should be made payable to The Richard III Society. Please endorse the reverse of the cheque with your name, membership number and postcode/zip code.

We can only accept sterling cheques drawn on a UK bank. The Society’s bank will not accept cheques in any other currency or drawn on an overseas bank.
 

WHAT IF I FORGET TO RENEW MY SUBSCRIPTION?

If you have not paid your subscription by 31st December you will be deemed a lapsed member and will no longer receive any of the Society’s publications. A letter, however, is sent to such members in January to remind them of this situation.

When the subscription has been paid then the dispatch of the publications will recommence.

Please note: To send out reminder letters is a financial burden on the Society and we do ask members either to renew promptly or to notify the RIII Membership Department if they do not wish to renew their membership of the Society.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE SUBSCRIPTION RATES CHANGE?

Membership rates run from October to September each year. The rates are discussed during the summer by the Society’s Board and, if an increase is felt to be appropriate, it is put before the Society’s AGM in October. If the vote is positive, the new rates take effect immediately for new members but are not applicable to existing members until the following October.

If you pay by Standing Order, you will need to advise your bank of the new subscription rate as required.

What if I move or my circumstances change?

In both instances please write, telephone or email the RIII Membership Department (msl@richardiii.net)

If you need to change your membership category, this will be effective from the new subscription year. Please note: If you do change your membership category, and you pay your subscription by Standing Order, please remember to inform your bank of your new subscription rate so your charges reflect changes to your category.
 

WHAT IF I HAVE A COMPLAINT?

We try to provide a friendly and efficient service. If, however, you do have a problem, feedback or complaint, please contact the relevant Society Officer or write to the Chair (contact details of Officers can be found on the Contact Us page).
 

WHAT IF I WANT TO RESIGN?

We hope this doesn’t happen! We understand, however, that interests or financial circumstances may change. It would be appreciated if those who do not wish to renew their membership, or decide to leave the Society during the year, advise the RIII Membership Department accordingly using the contact information above.

It is also useful if you could tell us why you have taken the decision to leave or not renew your membership, as this will help us monitor what members expect of the Society.
